Hoverclues are compact link descriptions that appear at the bottom of your browser when you mouse over certain types of link. They were introduced in Interclue 1.6 - but they didn't work properly under various circumstances - particularly on Linux and Mac systems. We've made a significant re-write of the feature that takes up less space, doesn't activate as often by default, works better on Mac & Linux, handles different system fonts, and also allows for larger image previews.
Clicking the button in the top right of each Hoverclue allows you to enable/disable Hoverclues by type. Currently, the following types of Hoverclue are available:
![]() |
ImagesPreviews of image files (eg png, gif, jpg) - NB: seeing the checked background indicates the image is (semi-)transparent, as opposed to having a white background. Clicking the preview image will bring up a full size preview with the ability to move back and forth between the image links on the current page. |
![]() |
Other Binary File TypesLinks to executable files and various other things than webpages and images. Provides the file's size, date, and type. |
![]() |
Malware & Phishing SitesDetects malware and phishing sites using the standard Firefox/Google blocklist - and we will add more (optional) blocklists later. |
![]() |
Shortened URLsAvoid malware and rickrolls by checking where a URL leads before clicking it. This uses the LongURL API. |
![]() |
Custom ProtocolsNon HTTP protocols which usually cause an external program to open (eg call: aim: irc:) - more information about individual protocols to be added later. |
![]() |
Network ErrorsDetect HTTP errors (eg 404:File not Found, 403: Forbidden, 500: Internal Server Error...) - Currently OFF by default as it was appearing too often. |
See what happens when you mouse over these links!
